Geez, that walnut is as big as his head. Did you see if he managed to open it?

Had a few nuts left over from Christmas taking up room in the pantry. Threw them out on the rear sidewalk to see whom I could con into taking them off my hands. Had a copla black squirrels checking them out when this fine fella appeared. Made short work on the black ones (they twice his size but big chickens). When he saw me he went into the stance in the first picture, daring me to take his nuts. All of a sudden he realized exactly what he had between his legs and dropped the little one for the big one. He tried a bit to bite through the walnut unsuccessful and then took off. I think he still is probably trying to get into it as I haven't seen him since.

Thanks to all for taking a look at my furry nemesis Red the squirrel and all the kind words. I apologize for taking so long in replying to you all. For most of fthe week I've been off on a birding outing at a wildlife refuge in the UP of Michigan and had no access to the net.
And no DebAnn I did not see if he got into the nut but knowing that rascal I have no doubts he did. I've had them chew a hole in the bottom of a thick plastic garbage can to get to my seed supply so that nut would not be a problem (that's why I now use metal ones.)
Since making all my feeders squirrel-proofed I've a minimal problem with any squirrels raiding my feeders, using a variety of baffles to keep them off.
