If someone walked up to you on the street or a mountain trail and asked you for a tip(s) with photography what would you tell them?

I searched UHH and found posts with links to tips for this specific purpose or that specific purpose but none by the poster themselves. I've also seen tips here and there in threads about other things. I just wasn't able to find one place to go to get a bunch of tips. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it just means I couldn't find it.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's tip. I'm sure I'll get quite the education and hopefully maybe someone else will too. In the interest of keeping the thread length down I'll thank you all in advance.

And I'll even start. I tell them I'm only a part time hobbyist but I say to always enjoy it and take lots of pictures.

I looooooove this. Although I think I shoot this way a lot, I’ve never consciously done it. I will now!

Thanks.

Pay attention. Many of the great shot's I've taken are of obscure objects on the ground that normally would be missed if I was shooting the "big picture."
Always carry a camera, of any sort, with you.

Take a picture or two. Then stop and use all of your senses to experience the setting, then take a second pic (or series) - compare when you get in front of a computer. See if experiencing the space had any effect on your image.

EVERY-TIME, this comes up, I say the SAME thing.....
GO TO SCHOOL!!! A REAL school, not the internet!
Take at least a two year program geared to produce professional photographers and when you go back out to take pics, you will be twice the photographer you were before!!!

Ah, but how do you continue your progress - or are you completely done after 2 yrs?

I think you’re heading for information overload. I’d prefer tips relative to my gear and subject.

If there was only one tip to offer, it would be this: as you hold your camera, bring your arms close to your body and hold your breath before you press the shutter.

Before you hit the shutter button, look around the edges of your screen and check out your framing.

Be observant - look for interesting shots. Work on developing good composition. That's what makes a shot worth looking at.

The joy of photography is in the planning, and then the execution, and then seeing the results. Continue to challenge your self to reach that next plateau.

I think I would just say "start by reading the user guide/manual" because anyone that would walk up to a stranger not knowing their ability and ask for coaching is a fool. This question is kind of like someone saying my car doesn't work, got any tips?
