Nikon D3 for Birding with Sigma 500mm prime. Old equipment still putting out good pictures. All pictures hand held can't wait to get a gimbal head to improve sharpness.

Just because there are newer cameras doesn't mean that older cameras will stop taking good pictures.
Good old Nikon gear!! Agree with Mac, you don't need the latest and greatest.

Nice images no matter what equipment was used.
That camera, as with any camera, is as good as when it came out, no better, no worse, assuming it’s still working correctly!
But the are definitely better cameras out there now, in every aspect of that camera’s operation!!!

looking at pic number one , i cant imagine any sharper !!.
Gary, these shots are tack sharp! I do not see how any tripod or head could improve them.
Very nice pics and well taken. I had a Nikon D3 and it was a real workhorse of a camera and I doubt that it will ever fail you for mine never failed me and a charged battery seemed to last forever. I traded mine for a D810 for I wanted to have the ability to take some videos at times. Really wish I had my D3 back.
Yes, it's a 11 year old camera but back in 2007 it was top of the line.
Great work! Um, I don't see a sharpness problem myself. :-)
