That the camera someone owns is much better than the owner as photographer. I wonder how do we know that? I am trying to figure out if my camera is better than I.

I tried! It doesn't do it. I said "Camera take a picture of me" and it didn't do anything. Lazy camera.

Only if the camera owner is not well experienced and does not read the instructions in the manual and knows nothing about photography is the camera better than the owner is at taking pictures. Experience, Knowledge, and Imagination will make a seasoned photographer great and an unseasoned one better.

As a camera store owner, my experience tells me that 97% of all DSLR owners not only do not use all their cameras features, most are unaware that their cameras even HAVE many of their advanced features.
I have two customers shooting Canon 1DX MKII bodies that have NEVER been taken out of AUTO mode.

Win - Win situation. You and your customers are both happy.

Thanks MT and now I know my camera is better than I. I do not use S or P mode. I never use live view. I never use auto bracketing I does it manually. I never use EC I switch to manual mode. I never use the built in HDR function. Perhaps many more features that I don't know.

I'm a broken record.... All the settings have a use, including the 'smart' ones.

Camera's can be smarter and quicker at picking settings in some circumstances. In others, we can emphasis some creativity. Camera makers put a lot of effort and money into the features. Why ignore that?

As MT pointed out I found that I am not as good as my camera. I do not ignore any of the features but rather knowingly accept them on my camera because I can't afford the camera that doesn't have those features. Each person has different want and need manufacturers can't satisfy all of us so some of us like me have to accept features that we don't want. Each of us has a different way of doing things and one doesn't have to follow others.

I think a camera can never be better than the photographer that uses it. They are a team and the result can only come from teamwork! Either could have greater potential but they can only produce at the best level of the team.

20 mg Prozac twice a day. After a week you won't care if the camera is better than you.

I agree with you and do not agree with a lot of people who said the cameras they have are better than themselves. I rarely upgrade but I understand the need of having better camera than the one you presently have even if there are tons of features you don't use. You just need the features that are not on the camera you have.
