On Sunday, I shot an 85th birthday party of my friend's mother. In doing so, I took family photos of the individual families. There were 11 pictures taken of the first family group. There is an appropriate gap in the numbering sequence. I did not take the SD card out of my Canon T3i. When I got home, I loaded the photos onto my Macbook pro. They are not there. Any ideas how I can find them?

Are the pictures there with the SD card is in the camera? If so, use your USB cable to download from camera to the computer. You didn't accidently lock the side of the SD card, did you?

There is recovery software if you did delete the photos. You should be able to go to any reputable computer store and have them recover the files. Stress on the word reputable... do not let someone who is not knowledgeable try it as they could lose the info for good.

They are not on the SD card, but there is an 11 number gap in the numbering system right where they should have been.

Gidgette, I would not know how to lock the side of the card.

Bill, The pictures are not on my SD card, either. Do I need my reputable camera store or computer store? Thanks!

computer store. I would doubt a camera store could help. Computer stores always have customers that need information recovered from formatted and damaged drives... they should be able to recover the data for you.

I second that idea. There's also a free download of a program called 'Recuva'. I have recovered a number of files from my card that I had deleted then changed my mind. i've finally learned my lesson. I don't delete ANYTHING from the camera itself unless it's way out of focus.

If they haven't been written over on the card, they're still there. If that missing number sequence came early in your shoot, there's a chance that some of them won't be available because you've written over them with newer photos.

I didn`t realise that the photos get written over, I assumed you would get a "no available memory" error or something ?

You can do it yourself and there are several awesome programs you can use for free. Gym has suggested a very good program too.

I suggested bringing it in because the techs there have done this many times before and you would have the piece of mind to know that a professional is taking care of it. It is a good idea to become familiar with the software in case you opps again (if you are computer literate).

Professionals may be able to recover them even if they have been written over... Takes at least 3 write overs to prevent recovery.

First of all, I want to ask you that Is your SD card available in your Canon T3i ? If it is ready for use, afterward you can just try to get that all photos with recovering software. If your SD card is not available, then it looks like impossible.

The deleted information is still on your card, but the space it occupies is now available for other information to replace it. But until that space has been assigned to any new data, your file can be recovered. The only way to erase it entirely is to reformat the card.
