Anytime you can get a shot of a live iron horse forget
anyone who's picky about a little cement block or sidewalk etc.!!!!! It's a great shot....we just can't always choose
little details...and they shouldn't matter, the SUBJECT
is the living-breathing steam loco.......Great picture!!!!

Lovely Picture, and lovely song.

Ah a fellow johnny cash lover. He is my #3 right behind sinatra and elvis. sorry springsteen, the true voice of the working man has always been and always will be johnny cash.

back to the photo . bryan peterson always writes about finding the shot within the shot. an interesting and rare find like an operational locomotive is clearly a subject matter to take time on. the dwtails is where its at, steam coming out the funnel, the wheels, the front of the train, the fireman shoveling coal, the bell on it, just a few ideas to explore the subject matter more thoroughlyu. since digital doesn't cost anything to shot. go wild.[/quote]

Lonesome whistle, hang my head and cry...I think that's Hank Williams, and the saddest song in the world
I love the picture...looks like a postcard

I believe you are right about lonesome whistle, i belive the line should be "... But I shot a man in reno, just to watch him die, when i hear the wistle blowin, i hang my head and cry"

Oh and jenny, while i share your excitement on having a working steam locomotive to shoot, it only takes a few seconds in the viewfinder or maybe a few more in software to crop.

Unbelievable!!!!!!!! On vacation, coming back home. Stopped at Nevada City, Mt. (5miles from Virginia City, Mt.) and took pictures of sort of tourist ghost town and down by the railroad tracks; they were restoring this engine. It is the same kind as the one in Alaska
