So disillusioned with Sony

Have been planning to upgrade my Sony Equipment (A300 and A55) to a full frame. Looked at Nikon and Canon but the store where I make most of my purchases thought it would be best to stay with Sony. Sony has a trade in program so I went on line to get estimates to trade for an A850 or A900. The amount Sony offered was actually embarassing, if they think that less of their equipment maybe so should I. Has anyone else dealt with Sony? I have a lot of Sony lenses, remotes, flashes etc hate to have to start all over again.

For getting rid of your equipment, Sony isn't the only game in town. Try Adorama, B&H, and KEH, and there's always ebay.

Thanks Jerry, it just either hurt my feeling or ticked me off that Sony thinks so little of their equipment. And I was dumb enough to get suck in.

I don't know the answer to this as I don't shoot Sony but do they have their own used equipment sales operation? If they don't, there's your answer, if they can't resell it then they are just writing it off.. If they do and can resell makes you wonder.

Don't take it personally. Once they sell a product, they look for the next item they can sell. It's all about sales and profit. Have you looked at their refurbished products? I got a DSC-W9X from their site for a little over $100, and it was like new.

Jerry is absolutely right, you can't take it personally, it is a business decision they have made and has nothing to do with the quality of their equipment or how they "feel" about said equipment! It is my opinion that Sony quality is second to none when it comes to their products and I shoot Nikon, Canon, along with Sony so yes, take advantage of your collection of Sony lenses and stick with them if you ARE happy with the results!

It might bee an idea to wait for the rumoured A99 SLT due out later this year

Thanks for comments, really like my Sony cameras they have given me excellent work. But when they offered $168.00 for both that stung!

Probably will stay with them but certainly sell differently.

There is a new full frame coming out in the fall since the A850 and A900 are hard to find right now, I'll wait until then.

When I get my first paycheck from my new part time job I think I'll order an adapter from fotodiox so I can use my Canon lenses (from an film AE-1 Program - all manual) on my A330. The old lenses are all faster (and heavier) than my
Sony kit lenses. I can't afford to buy any new (or additional) lenses for quite a while.

I purchased my Sony from Sony on line... refurbished and fantastic deal $300 got a a230 included a $200 lens. Immediatly put a 5 year warrentee on it. Their business is selling NEW cameras and like going back to the car dealer, do not expect the highest price in town for your trade in.

Most sell used cameras as-is, Sony refurbish them and that is a cost that others do not have. I can not think of not having an Alpha,,, my Minolta 7000 bit the dust years ago, but the Maxxum lenses live on as do yours.

Sony makes great products, else why would Nikon buy parts from then?

Buy a new car somewhere and try to trade it in a couple years later. The same car will be selling in their lot for 3X what you're offered for yours.

I recently traded in some musical performance equipment at Guitar Center. They determined the new retail price, cut that in half, then cut the half in half, and that's what they offered so they could resell at a profit and not be stuck with it.

This is common trade-in practice so don't blame Sony.

When I had a retail store until 2010, I could always depend on at least twice a week having somebody come in and want to sell something and be unrealistic about it. When I offered them a reasonable cash buy figure, like let's say $250, so I could have it cleaned up and checked by a technician, polish it, and sell it at $395 or less, they'd always say "But I paid $850 for it just three years ago. I'm not going to sell it for that!"
