I seem to recall for an older Nikon I could set it to "focus priority" mode where the camera would take a shot when something came into focus. This could be very helpful taking shots in focus using a reversed lens in manual focus mode. Can that be done with modern Nikon DSLRs (610 specifically) with a manual focus lens in manual focus mode? Can it be done in Live View mode?
I know there is focus priority in AF mode, but I want to use a manual lens, ie a reversed lens. Thanks!
I believe it was called “focus lock”.
I have never heard of it, but there are many interesting features about Nikons that I don't know about. In this article:
http://darrellyoung.blogspot.com/2011/08/understanding-what-focus-and-release.html it seems to me that focus priority is that the camera will only let you take a picture
if it detects the subject is in focus. As in it will refuse to do so if the subject is not in focus. That is a bit different from taking a picture
when the subject is in focus.
i wouldnt do it,you might have the eyes in focus but the camera wants something else in focus and wont take the pic

Good to know I wasn't imagining it! Thanks.

that is a good point and a valid concern. But right now my challenge is getting the eyes in focus in the first place!
There definitely is such a setting but it won’t work with manual focus. The camera takes your word for focus in that situation.
