There are many "no-no's" in this, and a few "yes-yes's." I am interested in how you perceive it. After comments, I will share what I HOPED to express.

I like it, a bit of flare in the foreground and a distracting vapour trail near the sun, but I like the yellow/orange to grey/blue transition across the sky. Maybe it would have benefited from a gradual ND filter.

A quote by Ernst Haas

“There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see is what we are.”

More no-no's than yes-yes's for me but like to think Haas was correct.

It’s not a shot that endears itself to me Bob - that burnt-out sun hurts my brain. I could however think-up a tale to go with the picture if only all the vehicles were pointing in the same direction, preferably toward to the sun. Then it’s mankind trying to get as close as possible to the last dregs of the dying energy source - the simplest Armageddon looms.
As always, it will be interesting to hear what you had in mind when taking it.

I don't mind this nearly as much when I add some light to what isn't sky. As an almost silhouette it doesn't work at all, and to my eye, the landscape is unnatural, to not be suffused with the warmth from this sun.

Good to hear all your views. Actually, one I especially liked said the sun "hurt my eyes." That's because, like many of you, I have driven into that kind of glare, actually, on I 80/94 shown here. There is something emotional for me about being on the road, going somewhere, thus the dramatic lighting. At the same time, distance and aloneness come to mind, blowing past farmland and people who have worked that land without the slightest knowledge of them.

I understand that feeling whilst on the open road, I’ve enjoyed it from the moment I got out on my first motorbike. Long distances still appeal, although as I’m now ancient they demand a few stops. In the last six months I’ve done three seven-hour drives and that’s long enough nowadays.
Thanks for the explanation Bob.

There are, as you point out, some "no-nos" here. The foreground does not really frame the photo or anchor it in any way. I think the lighting is a bit off because of the really bright sun and the dim rest of the photo (nd would have helped). Still, it seems to me that your intent was to capture an emotion rather than an event; and that seems to have worked. I've driven into sun like that knowing that there were many miles ahead and that the sun would give way to the loneliness of the night and yet my journey would continue. Your work never ceases to make me think about how I do things and question those decisions. I don't know that I would necessarily want to emulate your work; but the dialog that your work generates is interesting.
