Travels With Bob......NATURAL BRIDGE, Virginia.
One of our discoveries following our DC trip in April was Natural Bridge. These pictures were taken just a few miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. They have a Monacan Indian outdoor living museum that we found quite interesting. I shared a couple of these shots on one of the Challenges with the intent of still offering this post. Enjoy the smoke! Bob
(1) I was happy to have caught that Raven in the shot just before he swooped down into the trees. The Lee Hwy, U.S. Route 11 crosses over the Natural Bridge even today.

(2) Cedar Creek runs through the area & I don't have the space to show those pictures here. There's a waterfall at the end.

(3) These fences (Palisades) were often seven feet tall, packed with mud & designed to protect them from wild animals & territorial infringements.

(4) Hide tanning area. Animal skins were processed for use in clothing, blankets & trade.

(5)Roundhouse-Wigwam. The Eastern Siousans called this single family dwelling an Ati. These structures were covered with bark, reed mats or thatched with cattails.

(6) Let's step inside.........

(7) This beam of light (& a photo challenge!) is coming through the opening at the top of structure. It's somewhat smoke filled due to the burning firepit.

(8) Guess who smelled smokey after taking these pictures!

(9) Garden area. Not quite planting time when this shot was taken on April 10th! But they were doing some prep work on the area.

(10) Hope you enjoyed this smokey tour of Natural Bridge. Thanks for looking!

It has been years since we stopped there. The area looks like it was improved, or brought back, since then. We all gain from such pockets of History.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Bob......Capturing the rays was a fun challenge to attempt. Took many shots and choose these two for sharing purposes. Pleased that you made a comment on them. Much appreciated! Bob

Thanks Stephan G......for catching this series. Always nice when someone else who has visited.....speaks up & shares their thoughts. I also enjoyed walking along the creek area which turned out to be further back to the waterfall than we expected! Bet it's a lot more attractive today with all the trees sharing their greenery! And yes....the "History" was delightful! Very much appreciated, Bob
Excellent series, Bob and thanks for posting!

You are welcome, Bob, and a location that we always talk about visiting, but have yet to schedule, although I have crossed over it a few time while traveling on Route 11. Take care! Corky
