I will soon be 58 years old. I had taken a basic B&W photography class in college many years ago but never pursued it beyond that other than normal family photos of vacations etc with a point and shoot. A year and a half ago my wife gave me a Canon Rebel T6 for Christmas and I fell in love. I have scoured the internet for information and tutorials on anything regarding photography from basic theory to the best editing software. I am so excited when I can get out to shoot even if its just practice exercises. Why I didn't pursue this all those years ago I just don't know. The one thing I feel I am lacking is honest feedback from a knowledgeable, honest source. I am hoping I can find that here as well as inspiration and a non judgmental place to ask questions. Here's to staying young at heart and to never stop learning. Here are a few of my favorites from the past year.
Welcome to UHH, kenievans. Nice photos, as well.

I don't mean to bear bad tidings, but while the majority of the responses you will get to legit questions will be well informed and sincere, the "non judgmental" part of that may be a bit wishful. It's usually easy to detect the obvious trolling and "you're an idiot" responses, but you will rarely find a reassuring consensus, even among the knowledgeable and sincere. Just try to stay unemotional and listen to all, but, most importantly, to make your own judgments!

PS: Your images are great! You have a nice eye for composition and have crafted these images nicely.
Nicely composed. Capturing the partially clouded moon in the first adds a great deal to an already nicely composed photo. The second captures a mood and a feeling. That is one of the great joys of photography. Converting the third to black and white was a good move. Color would be distracting. The only change I would make would be on the right side to crop out that little bit of dark reflection so that the photo ends with white space rather than what almost looks like a smudge. Keep shooting. You've got a knack.
Welcome to the forum. Thanks for sharing some photos.
Thank you Andy. I'll make sure I have on my big girl drawers. I realize this is internet and Trolls will be Trolls. Not looking for a pat on the head but real feedback on how I can improve. Ultimately, art is subjective and not everyone will agree but it does feel good to get a little affirmation I am on the right track and maybe have a little talent.
So glad the feelings came through on the hat picture. I was with my dad checking out an old barn and he hung his hat up there. I was thinking about him getting older and slowing down. I took it from several different angles and distances but this one just felt right. Thanks!

Exactly!
Those are three splendid images to start out with. Although they are all good, I think the moon and the tower is NatGeoWorthy (c).
I suggest that you use both the buddy and ignore buttons as you become more active on this forum. I generally buddy those whose work I really want to follow (it is exhausting going through all of the new photos posted each day), and put the trolls on ignore. I think I only have two or three on that latter list and the former grows daily - I just added you, for example.
