Saying hello and introduction...
Hello group,
My name is Mark Lent and I am new to this forum. I worked as a photojournalist for nearly 30 years and now teach photography and 3D animation at a university in Suzhou, China called Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, or as we call it, "XJTLU". I also wrote and worked as a moderator for Popular Photography & Imaging as well as the Adorama Learning Center. I shoot with Nikons and have 3 bodies, a bunch of lenses from a 300mm F2.8 to a 14mm F2.8. Anyway, nice to be here.
About the photo... It is a shot of Shanghai, China. I live a scant 25 minute bullet train ride from this location, so go here often. The photo was made in Shanghai Tower on the (I think...) 110th floor with a Nikon N1AW1 mirrorless camera, which is my camera of choice here in China because most Chinese shy away from foreigners with big cameras. And I have found that this is quite capable of capturing some very nice images. The EXIF data says that the exposure was 1/2 second at F4 at 400ISO. The shot was also made in RAW mode and processed via Photoshop cc2018. I didn't have a tripod, so placed the lens directly against the window and prayed. :-)
Let's see... what else? I am a graduate (twice!) of the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!), am married to my spectacular wife Emily, who is Chinese. I have four children, 2 dogs, a cat and the occasional stray who needs a hand. Again, nice to be here and please say hello if you wish. Would love to hear from you.

Welcome. It's nice to have you aboard. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Very very cool shot - welcome! Looking forward to learning from some of your experiences :D
Welcome to the forum.
Nice shot!
Welcome this is a good site with lots of photos and information / discussions. How did you get that shot? Was it a taller building then the ones pictured?
Yes, from the tallest building on mainland Asia in fact. The observation deck is also the highest in the world and the elevators to get you there are the fastest in the world. Takes 45 seconds to go to the 110th floor. THanks for the comments!
Moderators, the message in Chinese is a SPAM message... Just FYI.
An interesting story about the building with the hole in it. It is owned by the Japanese and is in the shape of a Katana, which is a traditional Japanese sword. The Chinese took offense to this (they generally don't get along well with the Japanese) and built the building that I was standing in, which is in the shape of a traditional Chinese sword and is MUCH taller. One-upmanship.

Welcome Mark. Interesting photo, would like to see it in download. Tell me how did a double grad of Alabama end up using the phrase “dawg” as part of their user name? Something don’t seem kosher bout that

Welcome Mark...hope you enjoy this friendly forum!
Welcome Mark. You'll find this forum to be pretty friendly and encouraging. I'm pretty new to more than point and shoot, and everyone has been great with their comments. Interesting about the Chinese reacting better to a smaller camera. I shoot a Sony a6000 and love how small it is to carry around my neck.
