I bought a non Nikon one for half their price. It matches the quality of the Nikon ones I do have.
I don’t understand the statement that a lens hood is not included with the Nikon AF P 70-300 f4.5-5.6. Here’s what the Nikon USA website claims as included with the lens (a direct select/copy from the site):
What's in the box
AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR
LC-67 Snap-on Front Lens Cap 67mm
LF-4 Rear Lens Cap
HB-82 Bayonet Lens Hood
CL-1022 Soft Lens Case
Has / have dealers been stripping the lens kits? They should have that HB-82 bayonet hood included with any new USA-authorized lens. Can’t say on Grey Market goods, tho. All Nikkor lenses I’ve purchased (dozens) since 1963 have included lens hoods. That said, if replacing one, I’d go OEM.
The same deficiencies apply to after market hoods for Canon. I guess you need to read the brand name on the lens and buy that hood.

I bought a new grey market one. Saved over $200. But yes, then had to pay $12 for a hood.
But here’s a new $400 one from Adorama...no hood mentioned. Also no bag.
I try to always use hoods on my Nikkors. The only one I don't use a hood on is my 60mm Micro (it would only get in my way).
It's a good thing that I do use the hoods because last week I went away to the seaside for a 5-day vacation. While there, one of my Nikons went tumbling down onto the hard pavement. I felt physical pain as I watched it falling in slowwww motion, and then heard it CRACK! Picked up the camera with a terrible sense of dread, only to find that it was perfectly fine and functioning normally except for breaking the hood where it mounts to the lens. When I got home, I ordered another OEM Nikon hood, used but in perfect condition on Ebay for $8 including shipping to my door! Could have been a bad outcome if not for the humble lens hood.
Hoods are at least as useful for protection as they are for a lens shade. One caveat for the uninitiated however: If you can't figure out why your indoor, built-in flash photos have a crescent-shaped shadow. . . now you know.
AF-S 18-55 F/3.5-5.6G VR II- H B 69 (screw on). :-)
Go to eBay, they are inexpensive there, even if you hand a genuine Nikon. Although I don't know that originals are necessary, it is only a lens hood, what difference could it make?

I have one non-Nikon hood on a Nikkor lens, and it was very difficult getting it onto the lens.
The OEM hoods fit much better, and are a LOT easier to put on.
