Grand Canyon train photo spots.
What to look four to shoot while riding the Grand Canyon train.
Not sure, but I took a train ride in Alaska in 2005. I went to the last car, my wife held me from falling, I leaned out the side and photographed the train traveling around a bend. It was one of my best photos. I've attached an original. I edited and had it printed on canvas. At the time, I had just recently purchased my Canon 20D and was very inexperienced at exposure. Photoshop helped me adjust it.
Enjoy the ride & trip. The Grand Canyon is breathtaking and awesome!!

I did a similar on the Durango to Silverton narrow gauge steam train in winter.
Wow! I never thought of photographing like that while on the train. I was there with a professor and group of teachers. I got a picture of the engineer for my grandson who loved Tommy Train at that time. Linda
Awesome Bill!! I love the snow scene!! My grand kids loved Tommy Train, too.

Other than train going around bends and plain ole' desert shots they use to have a "gunfight" before boarding, some singing "cowboys" with guitar on-board, and an old-fashioned train robbery on horse back, all making good photo ops. However been 4-5 yrs since rode it so info may not be current. May wish to check out YouTube or Google.
Amtrak stopped service at Williams Az so I have to get off in Flagstaff going west and find a cab there, hope someone needs to get there so we can save on cab fair.

Or, stick your thumb out - both are on I-40 with lots of truckers driving by. <lol>

Ok, to be more helpful than last comment, ArizonaShuttle.com runs a bus 3X a day from Flagstaff Amtrak to Williams Railway Hotel - shows 7:45, 12:45 and 3:45.
amtrak arrives around 9;pm at flagstaff.

Just did Grand Canyon trip in April. If you booked vacation through Amtrak, shuttle will be waiting for you at Flagstaff to take you to hotel. Amtrak usually books you at Grand Canyon Railway hotel. In the morning after breakfast there is a wild west show. After show you walk to train that takes you to the Canyon. When I go to the canyon I stay overnight, so I can get more variety in my photos (night, morning, etc.), but some people just go for the day. Enjoy the canyon, it's breath taking.

Took the D&S Train in Winter and absolutely loved it, haven been on the Canyon train. Watch for upcoming bridges, canyons and long curves. In winter the DS only go to the Midway Station, about halfway to Silverton for obvious reasons, snow. They also add another engine once they start the climb into the mountains (first picture), at least in winter, not sure about summer. Go to the rear of your train and take as many pictures as you can of the train and engines. Get some close up of the engine(s) and Engineers, saw that train earlier this year when at the GC (Feb). Make sure your wife hangs out the window in the forward cars (if she can), she'll want her photo op. D&S engine is a coal burner and its full of soot & cinders, we were covered when we got back to the main station.....ahhh, the smell of a coal burning steam engine. But I see the GC train is a Diesel, still a beautiful sight
We took this trip shortly after the EPA busted the dam on a mine above the Animas River. A lot of it was relatively clear when we rode the train but the impact was noticeable in many areas. We want to do it and again in winter. Enjoy the Canyon Train, this D&S was a Bucket List for us
