These were taken with the kit 18-140 lens, which I just love. They were both taken in raw. The first was edited slightly.
Would you be open to comment/critique.....gulp! gasp! revision?..... on #1 revered Charlie'smom?

Gentle? Well.... Ok.... Here's the thing. I like the shot for its simplicity. I just wish there were more of it where it would add to the composition, and less of it where there isn't anything going on. More: to the left, and in such a way that the rocks balance the more distant skyline mountains. Less: in nearground beach sand and in uppermost sky, where there isn't much really going on. Beyond that --and this is in no way a deal breaker--, I sort of wish there were something, a person, a rock, something right up close in the foreground, not centered, but maybe in a line half-way between the near and the far background mountains.
If you've read this far, get ready for harsh, cruel, biting, and really mean, mean criticism. Level the horizon.
Net result of the above is going to be even harsher: You'll need to have another jaunty day at the sunny Salton Sea seaside sometime soon.

Thank you. I can’t disagree with anything you suggested. I do remember there was something to the left of the rocks (an ugly wooden structure maybe), causing me to cut it off where I did.
When you say level the horizon, are you meaning the mountains? I did do some leveling, but any more would have caused the formations themselves to be unnaturally straight. But I’ll give it a shot and see how it looks.
I’ll also get rid of some sky and sand.
Thanks for your gentle constructive criticism.

Now we're talkin'. You did pretty much exactly what I did. Sort of.
Glad to hear that you
consciously chose to cut off whatever it was on the left that didn't 'work.' Choices like that can be cruel, but sometimes they're necessary.

I’m relatively new at this and have no desire to be more than a hobbyist, but I’d like to put the best possible images on my wall.
Thank you. I feel your advice made a big difference.

Join the club. Oh, wait. You already
have joined the club!
Thank YOU!
each and everyone to his/her own...my first thought was keep all the sky and lose some of the sand.
but you can't please everybody (and the only one to really please is yourself).
Nice shot.

I think everyone pretty much agrees there’s too much sand in the original. I do like the sky.
