My wife and I were hiking near Mt. Ranier and looking for it through the heavy clouds. No luck, I kept thinking. Then suddenly the clouds parted. It was just an amazing sight at this distance. Had to use a polarizing filter in the bizarre lighting conditions. Originally shot on film and later scanned.

Wow. That's pretty cool. The first time I tried to photograph Mt. Rainier the weather was socked in so I set the camera up on my tripod and waited...And waited. Finally the peak poked it's head up out of the clouds and it was way higher than I had expected. I had to tilt the camera up about 30 more degrees to find the peak in the view finder. It's only around 14 thousand something feet, but right out of the ocean. Much more prominent in the landscape than Colorado's 14ers.

Having grown up close to the mountain and being a frequent visitor to the park I have seen soooo many photos of it that I am not easily impressed any more but yours did the trick! I love it!! Thanks for sharing. Glad you got a peek. So many don't.

Nice photo. We drove around the mountain loop several years ago. It was so cloudy at every scenic spot that the only photo we got was a big mural of the mountain on the back of an RV in a parking lot. It was pretty.
