I often find it instructive to try to make photographs "in the style of" other
photographers. It requires a bit of study and some effort but the results
can be interesting. This picture is from an early morning walk in Parque
Forestal in Santiago Chile I made using film. I was trying to emulate the
pictures made by Eugene Atget when he was photographing Paris. I hope
it worked a bit.

A breath of fresh air compared to other threads. A link to Eugene Agtetā€™s photography http://www.atgetphotography.com/The-Photographers/Eugene-Atget.html
Thanks for posting

great homage to Atget, one of my favorite photographers. I once had a dream that I was walking around Atget's Paris with my modern camera, getting great shots everywhere. Very disappointing when I woke up.

One thing which is so typical of Atget's work is that the highlights have a pronounced glowing quality; this gives his photos a uniquely dreamy appearance. If you can figure out how to replicate that feature, I think your emulation of his style will be near perfect.

Two things that may have contributed to the Atget look: His glass plates probably
did not respond well to highlights and the albumin paper on which the prints were made
responded ideally to the limited dynamic range of the plates. Happy accidents, perhaps.

Yes to this... How many happy accidents have resulted in great photographs or even great photographers?

Andy
