I have the free version of the NIK Collection from Google. I plan on purchasing the collection from DXO Would it be best to uninstall the free version or will the new version install correctly over the older version?
From what people have been saying in the past few days (and so far, there have been about eight topics on the new release, lol), the previous version will be overwritten automatically.
You can always move the folder containing the free software and allow the new install fill where it will. Of course you would need to re-establish the link to the moved file in your plug-in folder inside CC if you want to access the old.

Why are you going to pay for it? as far as I can see the only benefit is if you use Dx0 software rather than Adobe!

I am paying for it because I will get updates and support. This will also help DXO continue to maintain it. My philosophy is that nothing worth having is free.

My problem is that they seem to have done nothing other than remove the free one. When I see something happening I might buy into it, at the moment they could just stop development again.

It will remove the old version when it installs the new version. According to DXO, the new version includes updates that will enable NIK to function properly with the newest versions of Adobe products, and both MAC and Windows newest versions of their current OS's. At this time, DXO has said they are not adding any new feature updates or functions, this update is only to fix any bugs that supposedly have been reported using the newest OS's and Adobe products.

It doesn't really work as well with DXO PhotoLab as it does with Lightroom and Photoshop. Your statement doesn't make any sense.
The benefit is more of a longer term - if you are looking for immediate benefit, don't bother getting the upgrade. But if you feel that keeping this great software around, pay the $50. It costs money to develop, maintain and support software. Not buying it will help ensure it's demise. It's all about the greater good. Nik is good software, and keeping it current is about providing benefit for all of us who use it.
Bottom line, don't buy it if you are not having any issues with your copy. But be prepared to pony up when Apple and/or MS update their OSes, or Adobe, Luminar or other applications that can use Nik as a plugin update their software and the current freebie stops working. It will be $70, and not $50. Your choice.
