I have an N80 film camera that has a broken latch on the film compartment. Is it worth trying to repair and if so where?? Everything else is working fine on it. Thx.

Wow, that camera still worth some money. Check out Amazon.

I sold my film camera Canon 1N rs few years after the dawn of DSLR and never look back since. Right away I see savings lots of money on developing films and buying more films for blurry pictures I screwed up. ha ha....

Personally, I think this one question you’ve to ask yourself;
“Is it worth it for you?” IMHO…In my honest/humble opinion.

Thanks for all of your responses. The camera is about 9-10 years old and took great shots. I have two lenses, a 70/300 and a 28/80. I bought it just before my first grand child was born. Took tons of photos. Wish I'd bought Kodak stock!! I shoot digital all the time now and just wondered like you, if it would be worth the cost of repair to keep one around. I can't even remember what I paid for it.

Check with one of the larger photo shops or chains in your area and ask whom they use. I live near DC and there is only one real repair shop in the region; the two chains (Penn and Ritz) send their work to them.

You are so right about bad shots and developing costs! That's one reason I love digital.

Snowbear, I live in a little po-dunk town in Florida. I'd have to send this off to some larger area...maybe Atlanta, Ga.

Your camera is still selling at Amazon.com for $469.95 just for the body. I'd say it's worth repairing. I just read a few reviews of your camera and it is highly touted. B&H camera in New York can fix it. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ Give them a call.

get a copy of shutterbug magazine from publix they sell them here in vero beach im sure they sell them in podunk florida. Where is podunk, i've never heard of it :lol: :thumbup: Ive heard of podunk montana and podunk north dakota, but never a podunk florida. to get serious again in the back of shutterbug magizine they have listings for repair shops. find the ones that work on nikon and get them to give you an estimate. then decide if it is worth it. Im not challenging Bob but that quote seems a little high for a film camera. ive seen f-5's go for less. Bob did you accidently get the n-80 mixed up with the d-80. the n-80 is a film slr.

Bob you know i wasn't chalenging you it was just hard to believe. yes amazon is selling n-80 for the price listed, because they are brand new never been out of the box with standard us warranty. howevever if you check the used n-80's listed by amazon in very good condition they are being offered by various sellers from 90 to a little over 100 dollars. to answer the op no it is not worth it to get it fixed . Especially since you can get f-100's for around $150 used which is a better prosumer camera and has most of the same features as the f-5 in a smaller body. by the way the f-100 shared the same body with the d-100 a heck of a dslr.

Let it be known that the great adventuring family Podunk, made it not only as far as the Rock Mountians, but, over the great divide into California where at least one town is named in their honor. :-D Hows that for a word count and run on sentence? :-)

Hey, you know I love to have a bit of fun with you. You also know I do my homework before posting a statement. I think there are a lot of photography students out there that would love to have that classic camera. It was one of the last of the good Nikon film cameras.
