2018 National Running DaySince launching in 2007, Back on My Feet has engaged more than 100,000 volunteers and supporters. At any given time, 80% of our members are participating in our Next Steps program, working to secure employment and housing.
2018 National Running DayEach year on the first Wednesday in June, people across the United States participate in National Running Day. This day was designated as a day for runners to reaffirm their passion for running. It is also a good day for beginners to begin a life-changing commitment to running.
2018 National Running DayBoMF members have run a collective 500,000 miles and obtained more than 5,500 jobs and homes. Within six months of becoming a Back on My Feet Alumnus, 90% of members maintain their employment, 60% receive a wage increase and 20% achieve a promotion.
2018 National Running DayBack on My Feet relies on help from its volunteers at a local level, and also raises money through fundraisers, particularly fundraisers for marathons and other races.
2018 National Running DayRunning is a very inclusive sport with limited barriers and relatively little training required – all you need is pavement and a pair of sneakers. The adrenaline running provides and the sense of accomplishment help provide that ‘runners high’ to drive you in other aspects of your life.
2018 National Running DayFor some, running is a daily routine. The moment the runner awakes, their mission is to complete a set distance.
2018 National Running DayWhatever the distance, National Running Day is about placing one foot in front of the other and setting a pace.
2018 National Running DayBack on My Feet operates in 12 different cities throughout America, and usually recruits members at homeless or residential facilities. The only prerequisite? A positive attitude and a willingness to change one’s lifestyle. Members run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, alongside non-homeless volunteers, and if they achieve a 90 per cent attendance rate for at least 30 days they are able to move on to the ‘Next Steps’ part of the program.
2018 National Running DayBack on My Feet was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States in 2007 and as of March 2016 has chapters in 11 US cities, with a 12th launching in San Francisco, CA in late 2016. Back on My Feet is privately funded and its 2016 operating budget is $6.5 million.
2018 National Running DayWhat’s more, every $1 invested in Back on My Feet returns nearly $2.50 to the local community through the increased economic output from employment and reduction in costs for shelter, medical services, incarceration, and addiction treatment.
