Comments like the one yopu experienced will happen to you time and again.
They are well meant ( most of the time) yet born out of simple ignorance. I find it best to simply nod, say thanks and go on with your day.

Being a photographer ( or a photogapher light like myself) requires a thick skin. More so if you enter contests, submit images for publication or simply sell your images.
I have gone to flea markets some days sold 20 dollars and some day sold 400 dollars, It's all good. The experience is valuable. Grow a thick hide and march on with your passion.

I saw a high school orchestra playing. They were pretty good. I wonder how much better they would have been if the teacher/conductor would have used a more expensive baton.

This is getting silly. It's not the Baton, it is how well the teacher/conductor is and how good he/she taught the students to play.

It's not how good the photographer or how good the camera. I have seen bad pictures from good photographers and seen good pictures from P & S cameras. There are pictures that I liked that others didn't & pictures that others liked that I didn't.

I was showing some pictures I had taken to some friends. This one woman looked at my photos and said, "Your pictures takes good pictures". I thought it was just a slip of the tongue but the she says it again, "Your pictures takes good pictures". Okay, so what? She was trying to give me a compliment - or not.

Maybe I am missing something here but is it that important for someone to say, "Gee, YOU take gosh darm good pictures!" or, are you hearing, "Your camera takes good pictures (but you don't)."

A camera is only as good as the person who use it.

I don't know why I went off on a rant this way, I am sorry but I felt it needed to be said.
