Could anyone tell me what other lenses I should consider buying and why.

My camera kit came with the following:
EF-218-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS/II lens
Canon zoom lens EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 III

Thanks for any info for this newby.

:D Yes I have that same camera, i purchased a
cannon Zoom lens (Wide Angle)EF-S 10-22mm 1:3:5-4.5 for senery, and it excelent for close wild life also. I also got a Canon 75-300mm for far shots of wild life, is quite satisfactory considering the wiehgt. Would like a 400mm but I hike around with all this stuff and cannot see mee getting heavier lenses.

You got a great set of lenses and if you get any closer to those bears you might not never need any more lenses or cameras.

i also have the canon xs, i have the lens that came with it, the 75-300, 50mm 1.8 II and i have a couple of telephoto lenses i got from Ebay in a set for 20 dollars, they are 2x mag and wide angle, i love all of them bc i can get different shots with each depending on my situation.

i have been to alot of zoos with my camera, and i have found that the big lens is wonderful bc of the zoom feature, however as the others mentioned, it is heavy but well worth it.

if you do portraits or shots of people where you are not really having to focus on your background then the one that came with the camera or the 50mm work great for that

You don't really need to worry about any other lenses until you feel that the ones you have are limiting your ability..

You get a lens to meet the goal/objective of the type of photography you are engaged in. You've got it covered for most general photography...

JC. I totally agree, Master the lenses you have and you will probably be happy with what you've got.
