I live in Grants Pass Oregon.
Presently I am in the process of sorting out and copying my better slides to digital. In order to make the job easier I want to first sort out those that do not need to be copied. Second I want to make quality digital copies of the best versions. My questions are 1. Is there anyone in my area that would be willing to loan me a slide sorter for a short time as my sorter seems to have been lost in my last move. And 2. Does anyone in my area have a good solution to copying slides without loosing Sharpness. I would like to make a couple of tests before purchasing another solution. The solution I am presently using is an ION slide copier and it appears to lose sharpness in the copy.
If you are willing assist with either of these questions please send me a Private Message so we may discuss further.
This past winter I copied over 2000 slides. I tried various ways to do this but in the end the fastest and sharpest result was gotten by loading them into a slide carousel, taking the lens out of my 40 year old Kodak projector, setting up my camera on a tripod with a 100 MM macro lens aimed directly into the opening where the projector lens used to be and snapping the photo. With the macro lens I got 1/1 magnification. I did not need any depth of field because I was photographing a flat plane. I wasn't worried about camera shake either so I set the ISO to 100, the camera to the auto exposure setting, and used 19 point auto focus on my Canon 70D. In this manner I could shoot 10 - 15 slides a minute. After this I color corrected and cropped as needed. With this system there is no need to pre sort your slides. Just copy all of them and delete those you don't want in post processing.
Considering that the image I have attached is over 50 years old and was taken on a Kodak Instamatic camera, it is pretty sharp and the colors are decent.
Let me know what you think or if you have any questions.
Dave
Sounds like a reasonable solution. I will give it a try. Thanks
