I joined this forum a while back and follow it regularly. Until now I have been a silent observer and have learned a lot from the many talented people who participate. Thought it was time to post a few of my own. I took these bird pictures the other day with my Canon 80d and brand new Tamron 100-400. Constructive comments would really be appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Congrats on first post. Many love and enjoy the bird world here. May I just suggest that you not crop so close to your subject. Give them room and not cut off feet, tails, etc. I prefer natural environment to be included over portraits but that is just my preference. Develop your own taste and enjoy. Glad you are with us!

Handheld? If so, what exposure? Nice.

Three nice shots. The second two crops has part of the bird cut out, the tail and then the feet. Or are they crops?

very lovely! Love the detail you were able to capture. I'd have to agree with Csand above, if possible not to crop quite so close so that you can keep the tails/feet. But since the focus is on their heads, it's not a deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination. Very lovely.

It’s not a year since I joined this Forum and like you I have learned a lot; indeed continue to do so. It’s a great resource! Welcome!

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I was probably zoomed in to close on the Blue Jays. The Finch was cropped as it was perched on a bird bath which I didn't want in the photo.

Yes, handheld. f8, 1/1,000, ISO 1,000, 400mm. Thanks for looking.

JJS - I second this comment. All the images are wonderful in color and focus, but each seem like they could have been just a bit more space to present the entire bird. You might revisit how you've cropped the original or look at changing how you frame the image during capture. You might experiment too at a slower shutter and lower ISO. The first bluejay reports f/8 with ISO-1000 and shutter 1/1000. I think you could have captured the same sharp result around 1/500 with ISO cut in half as well.
