Photography is like fishing. You set off in the morning, rod in hand, and the possibilities are endless. Today could be the day you catch a record setting bass! That is the feeling photography brings to me. The next shot I take could be that breath taking photo that wows my friends and wins second place in the photography contest. It's always an adventure.

I like to lurk in anonymity so I'll leave it at Milo for now. I'm here to pick up advice on how to improve. I'm very critical of my own work so nothing anyone says will hurt my feelings. :)

I'm confused. Is this your cat talking to us or is it you referring to yourself in the third person? Are there two of you or just one? What kind of camera does your cat have? If you're here to improve, you might start improving by putting up some pics for peer review, or maybe just wow and impress us. Two things you won't get here - bass and trophies. You'll be the only one who will know if you improve or not if you only lurk. Lurk if you must, but the site is really designed to participate so that we learn from you and vice versa. Welcome, and jump on in. The water's fine but the fish ain't bitin'.

Milo is a name I've used before on the internet. It is currently unavailable for use so I tacked on cat. There is nothing wrong with using your real name and location but I'm not comfortable with that at this point in time.

I have a Canon EOS Rebel xsi 450D. If wowing and impressing were in my repertoire, I'd bypass this forum for something a little most prestigious. I'm not the kind of person who jumps in the pool. I like to wade in slowly. I'll leave the cannonball to you. :)

But I'll take your advice and dig through my files. I'll be posting some pictures in the future.

oh darn, i got all dressed up in my tuxedo and had a bottle of dom perrigon on ice for the occasion, but now that we are a non prestigious site, i ll go put on my overalls, and grab some moonshine cause hee haw is coming on, or maybe its larry the cable guy. in all seriousness, no one here gives a rats toucas about prestige, ego, or one upsmanship. we are french's mustard kinda people not grey poupon. There are some incredibaley talented photographers who go out of their way to be helpfull. newbies are encouraged molded shaped helped, and the funny thing is along the way they often teach use old dogs new tricks. the key here is participation. when everyone is giving and taking in a friendly helpfull manner knowledge is shared and everyone is happy. when people lurk and don't participate, you are just taking without giving. we should all celebrate when a new photographer discovers correct exposure, or posts an awesome shot. Ive been shooting for 43 years and there are some new photographers on this site who outdo anything i have ever done. its a joy to watch and help develop talent. by not participating you are missing out on one of the great pleasures in photography, passing on what you know and seeing them bloom. Oh and if you think im irritated at that non prestigous comment you are correct. this site is really new in time it will be prestigious but still down to earth.
