Really nice. The Bosque is about a lot more than just birds.

Excellent series...many thanks for sharing. Think this December I will finally make a trip there for the waterfowl and whatever.

Yes it is.

Aside from a gazillion different kinds of birds I've seen deer, javelina, bobcat, fox and coyote.........and, oh yeah.....skunk.

I know there are occasionally elk and mountain lion about but I have yet to see them there.

There is a pond (sometimes 2 ponds) on the west side of the road before you get to the visitors center. This is the best spot for morning shots of the sandhill cranes and snow geese. The birds aren't under contract so they aren't there en masse every day but.......I've never been completely disappointed.

Also......it gets much colder there than you might think. Three years running, just after new years, I stood in 13º weather waiting for sunrise. A 13º camera is not user friendly.
Wasn't nearly that bad this year though.

In addition to your list, I've seen a badger, several snakes, an elk and several road runners. I've seen javelina but the best photo I've been able to get is the south end of a north bound javelina disappearing into the brush. And you're right, sunrise in January in the Bosque is about as cold as I'm willing to get ever again!

I am trying to understand what I am seeing reflected in the water at the top, in the egret shot. It looks like normal weeds one would expect, but at a gigantic scale. Nice pictures

Here is the uncropped image. They are tall weeds. 4-5 ft high if I remember correctly. I guess they qualify as reeds.
Unfortunately, I don't have an image that shows the whole plant.

I appreciate your showing the pre crop image. Thanks. It’s usually interesting to see what has been cropped away. I always wonder with the shots people post.

I just had a look on the computer. I like a 4x5 ratio also. But I see what a great job you did taking out the distracting bits. Makes such a difference. Content aware is a wonderful thing. I sort of assume you use it. Anyway, thanks for the peak behind the scene and very nicely done. Mark

Content aware fill, clone stamp, patch tool.......whatever works. I love fooling around in PS almost as much as being out taking pictures!
