There was a time in history that 'taking the knee' was a sign of homage. So I always viewed those 'taking the knee' episodes as an appeal to be better than we had been in the past and certainly not a disrespect for the flag. Where is it written that there is only one way to show respect. From 1933 to 1945 one nation had a 'one way,' are we not better than them?

Give me a break. That's what it use to mean but unless you live in a cave and don't watch the news you know that's not today. If I had my way any of the pro athletes that show disrespect and take a knee during the National Anthem would be banned from the sport for life. Many of those clods that do that probably have little if any idea of what has been sacrificed so they can act like morons.

Disrespecting the flag (as in taking the knee) should be an "automatic enlistment" to the branch of your choice.

Just two days ago I saw a guy 'take to the knee' before a tombstone, according to you he was disrespecting the dead. Just last month I saw a picture of a celebrity 'take to the knee' as he offered a ring to a lady, according to you he was disrespecting his beloved. Taking to the knee is not a remote historical oddity. A few fruitcakes said it was a sign of disrespect and that is why they are fruitcakes.

Sorry but are you really so thick you can't or don't understand the difference?

Hi! sorry to jump in but, english is not my mother language... I do see what John_F meant when he talks about "taking the knee" before a loved one or a tomb stone, but I seem to be missing the meaning of doing so during your national anthem. Maybe you could explain it to me? Was that guy tying his shoe or something? And, I don't really know if my question sounds disrespectful at all or not, but I'd like to apologize in advance if anyone feels I meant it that way.

Ale.

I am a patriot. I respect our armed forces. I honor the lost. My uncle Ken my mom's brother I never met. He was killed in "the battle of the Bulge" a terrible battle.
I wasn't in the military. Would have gone if called. Holding my hand to my chest at pledges is what I wan't to do. I respect the flag. And our country.

But flag pins and judging other people's devotion to their country is a personal thing. Taking a knee is about the way people might be treated and discriminated
against in our country. I am not a big fan of their actions but respect their rights to protest in this quiet way.

I am a student of wars and believe that what happened in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, Afghanistan, iraq was hard to understand. Thousands of men died in Vietnam.
300,000 were wounded. Historians are still having trouble understanding why WWI happened. Millions of civilians died. Our men and women are still
dying in wars that are not clear about why we are there. Most of these conflicts are political. And we must honor our country and our patriots that fight.
We also most question why this sacrifice was made. That is also being a patriot.

[Your right about devotion to patriosm is a personal thing . My beef is they are using the knee thing as a specticle to show their defiance and in doing so totally disrespecting America. If they don't like it here fine leave.quote=Tom Daniels]I am a patriot. I respect our armed forces. I honor the lost. My uncle Ken my mom's brother I never met. Interesting.
We kneel in respectful submission, as before an alter, before the King/Queen, in prayer, etc..
We stand in respect when the bride enters the room, saluting a superior officer, pledging an allegiance, during a national anthem, etc..
I'll stand for my country, not be submissive to it.

For anyone who does not know. Kaepernick started it as a protest over police brutality. And his muslim anti american fiance on her reality show made it into a protest about america and trump. And most of all the white devil. And stupid ol kaepernick forgot his adoptive parents are white. Seems to me he should get rid of her and thank america for every thing he has.

Yes. That is it. Kaepernick was clear that he was not going to stand and honor our flag and anthem because he was protesting something that was HIS PERSONAL beef, and he was forcing that beef of his onto the football fans whether they liked it or not. There was no respect whatever in his actions. And the knuckleheads that followed suit were just sheep trying to get their faces on camera.
