"Good" and "Bad" reviews on the same lens

I'm not a Wedding Photographer but I shoot digital pretty much like I do film, slow and methodical. 80 digital shots is a good day to me.


That reminds me of the local camera club I joined-- some cajun buddy had just bought a camera that he could shoot mNY FRAMES PER SECOND AND WE CALLED HIM "MACHINE GUN KELLY" LOL Let the hair go with the hide!

Very true again that combined with the various hardware, software and films and wet processes is what makes this such a dynamic hobby/profession. :-)

Not sure about Canon L lens they are highly prized video makers who are not using cine lens.
But lens are no different then cars. It is branding too. I do see a difference in my few Zeiss lens.
Color rendition sharpness etc. I couldn't really afford good cine lens for my video initiative.
So I bought the more recent Rokinon cine lens. 14mm, 24mm, 50mm etc. South Korea's
Rokinon, Samyung etc are making good lens at amazing prices. Cine lens are very expenses.
In the thousands of dollars. these 3 primes were under $1200. 1.5
they are all very fast lens. And well made. Their are some flaws but the overall experience
in what your visuals look like is good. I let my eyes tell me this is Ok what fun having cine
lens.

That is all correct! Also take a look at the Chinese Yonguno - lenses I've tried some of them and I have not been disappointed.

From a lot of pro reviews I've read I have often heard something like: "both are fine lenses, however A is a bit better than B with a certain feature at certain camera settings". You have to ask yourself: am I enough of an hyper-attentive photographer to notice? Saying that, Sharp Shooter is right about build quality. Also: I would think Canon L lenses would have better resell value.

Interesting question. In my my case I'm a very bad amateur and my L lenses fall somewhere between I need all the help I can get and I can afford them and they look cool. :b Seriously, I have a several lower end Canon lenses, some decent quality third party lenses and a few L series and personally I like the functionality and image quality of the L lenses the best. I have done some pretty detailed tests betweeen the Ls and some of the others thinking I could sell the L lenses and use the money for something else but the other lenses I have just don't give the same overall functionality and IQ. So at this point I will continue with the Ls.

That is true on the FF cameras. I'm not saying it has never happened but I have never seen an L series as kit with a crop sensor camera.

Kit. Meaning the lens that comes with the camera. Way back, you couldn't buy a camera without the lens. I don't know about Canon, But I have yet to run into a Nikon lens that wasn't sharp.

Understood on the definition of kit lens. I can't comment on any brand other than Canon. Not that the others are not great cameras, just that my experience is limited to Canon due to time and money. I can say that compared to Canon's L series that come as kit on their higher end cameras the low end kit lenses are pretty bad. It is possible to get decent shots with them but with limited conditions. Where the L series are much more flexible in their shooting conditions and ultimately sharper.

One of the most exciting events is Chinese, South Koreans making photo equipment that is much better than in the past. Korea's Rokinon and other versions of their brands are good. Flashes and the triggers what go with them are now found in pro work. I think one of the differences is pro's who use their camera's and lens everyday.
The pricing is 25% the cost of the big name brands. Ken Rockwell see's many lens that are more plastic as having good quality glass. And tells you when
a lens is made for a lot of use for a pro or shooter constantly. That is really the difference. I must say that my experience with the Nikon lens of the past where
we had amazing lens some of which I still have. And the original 50mm lens were great lens. Good luck.
