Mid day bright sun for landscape I just shoot as is generally in aperture priority. For people I try not to unless I have a flash to fill in. When I use flash the camera is always on manual mode the primary reason is that I don't have a compatible flash. I would prefer taking people pictures in the shade if I can. I don't like backlit or even at angle.

Are you asking this as a choice or a pro. Because when I get an assignment to be somewhere at this time and only have an hour and a half to make it work. I have to make due with whatever lighting equipment and settings I have. My clients don't want to hear this BS about the light being to harsh or whatever. All they care about is the shot.

I shoot in the middle of the day when I must do so, but it is not my preferred time of day. Unless shooting people/faces I do not use fill flash at that time.

I prefer shooting at dawn, aperture priority (or with fill flash with manual priority).

For Landscapes, the only answer is it depends. In Yosemite Valley, with the sheer granite walls of the monoliths, sun does not reach the valley floor until almost mid morning. In Death Valley, midday sun is very, very harsh, so sunrise/sunset is preferable. Doing street shooting in Los Angeles, around buildings, mid day is better. So, it all depends on where you are.
And, in all instances, I shoot in Manual Mode.

Not too many events (weddings, graduations, ball games, etc) scheduled for that time of day. Only thing I have on my calendar is sunrise, or an early head call.

Depends on subject, but mid day sun is my least favorite, open shade or back/side lit, manual flash (I don't own an auto TTL flash).

Hi Gene... I use a Canon flash with a Canon body, which gives me an advantage in that I can disconnect the flash from the camera, so that I can set the flash compensation + or - independently from the camera settings.. Its like having 2 light sources one for ambient the other for flash.... I can also use this for off camera flash. I think that only Canon has this function... When using E-TTL the compensation of the flash and camera are linked and the compensation wheel effects both simultaneously. Its like when I am in my studio I prefer to adjust my light output while keeping my camera settings the same...
Gene how do you set up your camera and flash for back lit shots or bright sunlight?

I shoot in shutter priority whenever possible, most of the time at 125th sec. This helps reduce the camera motion I find in the new dslr cameras which will not hold steady like they used to.
Instead of fixing the problem, Nikon responds with inane comments, that have nothing to do with photography. I am fully capable of noticing the camera is unstable. It is stupid for nikon to try to pass this problem along to the number of birthdays the photographer has experienced. I do not consider 85 years to be the problem causing this camera shake, and will pass along my frustration and complaint to "Geezers are us," a most effective group, feared by all manufacturers, particularly those dealing with photographic products.

All of the above , morning , noon and afternoon , if subject is stationary I shoot manual and bracket.

As others have said, it depends on the subject. If I'm shooting sports or racing, I make do with the light I have to work with.
