this was an AWESOME event-I was there for all 4 days. The helicopter ride across the street was well worth the$50 per flight-I did 2 flights. Thanks for the "refresher"!

Paul, I looked that up and the only thing I could find was the 2014 event. Was that a one time gathering? I can’t believe that happens every year although I’d like to see it.

That was a once-in-a-lifetime event-much like the "Family Portrait" event in 2012. There was a Streamliners event over in Australia a couple of years ago. There was talk, after the Streamliners, of doing something similar with steam engines, but I don't know if that ever went anywhere. Given the current challenges within the RR industry, that might not be a possibility anytime soon. Hopefully Paul can shed some light on that

RE: Streamliner Event. There are many events that are results of opportunity in that some of the rolling power are from other RR museums arranged to send their pieces to Spencer, NC. (One of the facilities for doing work on the equipment.) One such event I was sure to catch was the "refurbished" Texas send-back to Atlanta.

Your top photo (New Haven 2019)shows a very unique diesel-electric locomotive (EMD FL-9). They were solely used by the New Haven Railroad between Boston and New York City and, into Pennsylvania Station. To operate into Penn, they were outfitted with a "shoe" that could power the locomotive as the diesel could not be used in the tunnels. This presented a problem going into Grand Central because of multiple tracks and switches so some units were able to utilize an overhead cantenary with a small pantograph. These were heavily used...I was probably on this one at some point!

Nice set!

I keep coming back to look again.
Did you get a shot of the driving controls?
Thanks, Pat
