I am interested in trains and railways and like to photograph them when I have the opportunity. This new addition to UHH inspired me to share these photos with others who may be interested.
Genesee & Wyoming Australia operates in New south Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory of Australia and provides rail freight services to all Australian mainland capital cities. The attached photos capture a freight train hauled by three GWA diesel electric locomotives arriving in Alice Springs in central Australia in the late afternoon of Sunday 27th August 2017. After a brief stop-over it departs Alice Springs in the fading light to commence the second half of it's 2,979 km (1,851 miles) journey from Adelaide in South Australia to Darwin in the Northern Territory.

It's great to see these 45 year old work horses still earning revenue.

The sun is just about to disappear below the horizon behind me as the train leaves Alice Springs to commence its long journey north to Darwin.

Very cool! I particularly like the last (sunset) image, but the others are great as well. Clearly shows the size and massive power of the GWA equipment. /Ralph

The look of the trains and the terrains is a beckoning call that I wish I could answer. Nice group and thank you for posting them.
Thank you for the thumbs-up Longshadow.

Thank you for looking. I will see if I can tempt you some more in future posts.
That last one is really nice.
Great set-shooting the RRs in Australia has always been a "bucket list" item for me. Down here in the SE USA, G&W is a fairly prevalent shortline owner/operator-some more railfan friendly than others
