Camera bodies, red and black. Any difference?

I'm a relative newbie, seeking to upgrade my equipment a little (that's what I call it - others have other names for it ). I'm thinking of upgrading my Nikon D3300 for a refurbished D5500 (looks more appealing to me than a D5600, and cheaper). I have a question that I'm pretty sure is silly, but I have been unable to find anything definitive anywhere else.

Adorama is selling a red version of the 5500 for $60 less than the black version at B+H. Otherwise, as far as I can see they are identical. Is there any reason at all why the red would be cheaper? Red means stay away? "Real" photographers only use black? Anything else?

Feel free to comment on the general plan (trade D3300 for D5500) if you want to, though I reserve the right to ignore suggestions of the form "You should buy ... instead"

Well, the black is less noticable. Red attracts attention.

They are both refurbished so they are not bound by Nikon prices. If you want black, B&H might price match.

I would imagine they would be the same internally.
I'm guessing that the red is a marketing attempt to get people to buy something different.

Ask Chris T he has several red cameras and it seems that all of them have problems.

The red finish looks pretty cheesy, and often sells for less on the used market (I think Nikon has discontinued it on current models).

I don’t think there is any functional difference.

Nothing wrong with your plan. Consider which features are important to you, and look at all the D5xxx and D7xxx models to compare. Paying for stuff you don’t want or need is foolish.

I think we can safely ignore anything Chris_T has posted on just about any topic.

I notice Chris T postings have re-appeared again, after a few weeks absence. Haven't read either of them. I'm waiting till 'The Paint has Dried'.

Red is for girls black is for men. Nikon doesn’t make a red D 850

Amazon still has brand new D5500 cameras. I just looked up the red and black versions on their website. The price is exactly the same. You get the 18-55mm lens with it.

The D3xxx and D5xxx series cameras have a pentamirror viewfinder. If you go to a D7xxx series or above Nikon, you get a superior pentaprism viewfinder. The glass prism inside gives a larger, slightly brighter view through the viewfinder.
