Hi, I have searched past posts to see if my question has been answered and it looks like the last time the subject came up was in early 2016 and I am sure things have changed since then. I am looking to upgrade from the ViewSonic VA720 I have been using for many, many years to something better for photo processing as well as general computer use. I am using a desktop Windows 10 computer. I am thinking I would like something in the 27" range to give me some working space. Any recommendations on monitors that work well for photo editing and general use (not a big gamer, but I do like Microsoft Flight Sim).

One of the 4K 27" with HDMI or Display Port inputs should do the trick. Just beware that you might need to add a higher end graphics card to your system to get the most out of your new monitor.

I'd suggest this one. EIZO ColorEdge CG318-4K - LED monitor - 31.1"

Look at Dell Ultrawide Monitors U2917W, at $400. Ultrawide allows you to position 2 applications windows side by side for improved workflow. You can have Lightroom and Photoshop side by side, or Lightroom with the full screen preview window side by side. Not having to Alt-Tab between windows is a real time and creativity saver.

You might want to consider the HP ZDisplay Dreamcolor series of monitors if you are looking for faithful color reproduction and great resolution. I purchased a 24" Dreamcolor in 2015 and have absolutely no complaints against it. ZDisplays are carried by B&H and range in price from about $600 to over $3100 depending on size and features. Worth considering. The ZDisplay is in the over 1 billion color range rather than the typical "millions of colors".

For best results a monitor that gives you the same view independent of viewing angle is recommended. This allows you to accurately proof your images before printing which will avoid surprises.

One such technology feature that provides this is called in plane switching(IPS). see link

I used to have a 24" CRT that was about 2024 by 1980. Great monitor and I could also use it to heat up bagels.

Check the number of colors the monitor can present. Most monitors, regardless of size, only display up to 16.7 million colors. Sounds like a lot, but the best photo monitors display up to 1 billion colors. They can display the Adobe RGB color space to a much greater degree than the cheaper monitors. This, of course, comes at a price. However, check out NEC professional monitors. I have one that displays 1 billion colors and it cost less than $500. You can spend $2500 on an EIZO monitor. Good hunting and good luck!

Jump to Color in the human brain - When viewed in full size, this image contains about 16 million pixels, each corresponding to a different color on the full set of RGB colors. The human eye can distinguish about 10 million different colors.

What is your budget? What resolution are you looking for (1080 or 4K)?

I have the BenQ SW271. Like it a lot, middle of the road in price, good size, nice controls, etc.
