Pictures taken with a late afternoon sun behind me. Loved the texture of the wood and bone but lost some detail. No pp on this HDR. c&c welcome, (Please)

I like the gate as a picture however, your -1 setting makes a better photo then your HDR. Mabe if you tried -2 / +2 would have been better. I can not see into the shadows in your HDR as good as in your -1 photo.

I agree. I shot at f 5.6 with + and - 1 stop as that is all the Fuji S700 will allow. I was in A mode. Next time I think under the same conditions I`ll start with f 8.
I`m hoping to get a SX40 HS very soon and retire my old camera. (old at 5 years old ) Technology moves so fast.
Thanks for your response.

Blown highlights. Properly executed HDR exposures will prevent this.

Found the problem, I forgot to change from shade to sunny after my last shot. Getting old and forgetful sucks!

Looks like a great gatepost and a great HDR subject but it hasn't quite worked. If possible I would reshoot as the white areas of the antler and bone are blown out. Generally you need to expose the 0 shot so that there is minimal blowout in the highlights. Then the +1 gives you the shadow details and the -1 shot brings back any of the detail that may have gone in the 0 shot. But definitely worth another go

Hope this helps

The only idea I came up with is to convert it to B&W. It makes what I feel is an excellent conversion. The other problems disappear and the contrast between the bone, wood and trees is excellent. Let me know if you want to see it.
