Does using BBF turn off the lens VR on a Nikon D7200? I believe I read somewhere that this is the case. Is this so?

No. Who knows what you read, but turning off VR simply by reassigning buttons to control Auto Focus is not how Back Button Focus works.

Definitely not...in fact, VR will activate when you push the BBF or shutter release.
