Congrats on your new forum, Pat! This train runs through the Yakima River Canyon Scenic byway. I remarked in a UHH topic one day that I had only seen it traveling from north to south; another user researched and declared that to be true
These photos show the location as it passes behind a bald eagle nest I watched for five consecutive summers. #1 is not a composite; it was just right time/right place

The large tree near center of frame is the nest where the eagle was headed. Many years of eaglet familes have grown up with the sound of this train!

Number 1, what a shot!
I looked at the 2nd image and immediately thought, I recognized that tree.

Linda, Love the first shot! (Burlington might be willing to spend a few dollars for it
)
I also like the 2nd photo. While I'm a fan of trains, I much prefer shots that show them in their working environment. (engines like the General don't come under that
) I to often see photos with titles like "Engine number 123 at Location" and all that is shown is the engine. Your photo has information that includes the train and tells something about where it works.
Nice shots Linda. I am, of course, partial to the one with the eagle.

Rich and Bill, thanks very much!

Wonder if the crew spotted the eagle.
Great shot.

Oh, there's a crew?
I'm so focused on the eagles and their nestlings, I'm sure I've not even seen the train on occasion. Thanks for the comment!

No, there's no crew. Doesn't need one. The train runs on a track. It's not likely it will veer off the road. And with active crash avoidance technologies like they have in a lot of cars these days the train should be able to brake for anything that may be on the tracks.
BTW, which one won the train vs. eagle race?

The eagle had a closer finish line
btw, one year there were triplets that all made it to fledgling stage. I have some old photos somewhere showing when they'd been investigating something along the track and the train came! All flew out of the way in time...

Considering the penchant for mis-regulation in today's government, this does not surprise me.
"Today's trains are the forerunners of the drone systems. Same technologies. Same pilot."

PS., "Sir, did a train come by?" "Why yes. Can't you see the tracks it left behind?"
