This California Towhee was in and out of the water for over 5 minutes and splashed about 1/3 of the water out of the bird bath. Some sparrows and finches tried to get a drink or in the bath but the splashing drove them away.
It isn't a great picture because of all the PP to make up for poor light but this is what the bird looked like after 5 minutes.

Does sort of look like it took a ride through the car wash in the back of a pickup.
Just washed my feathers and I cannot do a thing with them!
I hope he looked a bit better when he dried off!!!

When dry they are nice conservative looking members of "Little Brown Birds" with just a touch of color here and there.

Or a blow dryer and brush.

I am happy to see the bird looking normal again.
BTW, the dry and well groomed bird is a very nice shot!!!!!

Thank you, the Towhees come to my feeders and then hunt bugs around the yard and in the joints of the block wall. A few weeks ago when I moved an 18x18 tile that had a potted flower on it one landed about 4 feet from me and was chowing down on all the slugs and other critters revealed when I lifted the tile.
