LR to PSCC color shift?

OK, I double checked my color space, shot/edited in LR then moved to PS all in sRGB. My photos opened up in PS with a bluish gray color cast, and really didn't look good on the skin. I had to add adjustment layers to bring back the warmer skin tones. I even tried to "over warm" them by switching to cloudy white balance, but once in PS, they look exactly the same.

Is this a glitch with a recent update? Am I doing something different that I'm not realizing? I've never had this happen before, and it's pretty frustrating. No issues if I just export from LR to a file and open it with something else, it's like the 2 adobe products aren't playing nicely together. (Like my kids used to do)

PLEASE, if you feel the need to jump in and bash "evil adobe", just... please don't. Just looking for answers, I made my PP decision years ago, and am happy with it, just like any program, sometimes operator error, or "update issues" can sometimes get frustrating.

Thanks, in advance, to those that offer help.
Bob

Although I can't comment on whether a recent change is impacting your situation, you might want to revisit your external editor preferences for LR to PS. I send output from LR as 16-bit TIFs in ProPhoto RGB, where the target software supports this LR internal default. Otherwise, I use AdobeRGB. I don't convert to RGB until creating JPGs.

That's interesting. I've always just used the sRGB color space for everything, since that's what my lab uses. I used to edit in Adobe RGB, but then when I converted, the colors seemed different, I notice (well, noticed) less changes that way. I do export from LR to PS in 16bit Tifs, but my preferences, any where I can find settings for color space, are always set to sRGB for consistency.

Why do you use Adobe RGB? Are there advantages to that?

Here's a link to an older discussion of colorspaces and a diagram on page 1 showing the relative coverage of each colorspace.

I work with my white balance on every image and regularly adjust the H/S/L of individual colors. The widest colorspace provides the widest options, although the differences are subtle and I have not science / statistics that show the difference of RGB v AdobeRGB / ProPhotoRGB in the JPG in RGB. I have noted a lot less issues with color banding and pixelation since changing to 16-bit TIFs and ProPhotoRGB / AdobeRGB when editing outside of LR.

Thanks for the link. I also read the links within the other posts. I get the whole color space thing, and I do export as a 16 bit tiff, Only when I open it up on PSCC, I get that color shift. It's odd that I don't, if I export to a different PP program, only when going from LR and use "edit in PS" do I get it.

I'm wondering, do you know if there is an easy way to just reset the preferences to default, and go back in and change them one at a time to see if any of my settings are doing it?

Lightroom has its own working color space that you cannot change. It is close to ProPhotoRGB (and is called Melissa RGB). Most recommendations suggest sending for edit from Lightroom to PhotoShop in ProPhotoRGB for this reason. After editing you would then have Lightroom "Export" your web images in sRGB and your printable files in whatever your outside print service suggests.

The external editor preferences translate to text files you can open, read and maintain via something like NotePad. You might find the original text files and / or the corresponding option from the drop-down list from Edit / Preferences / External Editors.

Note that LR uses it own color space 'Melissa RGB' when editing but will export to any color space flavor you may want.

I can only tell you what I've done for years with great success. I set my LR preference to ProPhoto and I set my Photoshop preference to ProPhoto so the color spaces match. When I go from LR to PS I do it from within the program using the Command-E (for edit in PS). After saving I return the file to LR. So far, this has always worked for me. I do not change any color space until I export as a final product.

That's what I do, except I use the sRGB, because I noticed when using Prophoto that my colors changed a bit during export, so all my preferences are set the same... just not the same as yours.
