I’m embarrassed to be asking this, but my Epson portable drive died and I have to depend on cards. Here goes: How many images, shot RAW on my Sony A6000, will a 16 meg card hold? Will a 32 meg hold twice as many? And how do you know when the card is full? I’ve searched the info stored in the camera, but it was not helpful.

Don't apologize, it's better than shooting until the card is full. However, based on the handy table in the link, a 32 GB card, with Nikon D850 RAW size of 52 Mb, will hold about 516 images. So, for a SOny A6000, you're looking at 1100 images. I don't think you have to worry.

But, and it's a big one, get yourself a replacement HD STAT. An SD card is too fragile for long term storage of valuable images.

It's always a SWAG since the charts use the maximum file size for each shot but if you're shooting jpg the actual size will vary. Even shooting raw there is some variance. I shot 3 shots in this room and the file sizes ranged from 21,923mb to 23,398mb

Download images to your computer and reformat the card with the utility in the camera. I just bought the a6000 and am really pleased with it. I am still going through the menus though.

Your computer should be able to tell you how much capacity is left on your SD card. My PC uses Windows 10. Go to Windows Explorer and if the SD card is plugged into the computer Windows Explorer will tell you how much of the card memory is used and how much available memory is left.

Cheers

I am confused. You mention a 16 meg and a 32 meg card. Now-a-days, we use 16 and 32 Gigabyte (GB) cards. The Sony A6000 has a 24 meg sensor, larger than the 16 meg card, but only a fraction of a 16 GB card.

Honest terminology mistake.

You’re right; my cards are gigabyte, not megabyte cards. And for those who’ve suggested I go to my computer, I have to say I’m on a ship, cruising from Rostock, Germany, to Gdańsk, Poland, so UHH was my best bet. You folks never disappoint. Thank you, all.

Your owner's manual should give you a clue. If you didn't bring it, it should be available online.

Oh,yeh! Today we were in What had been part of East Germany; tomorrow we’re in Poland, then we go to Estonia. Trying to see it all...

That’s a lovely thought and a great suggestion, but there’s one small problem: Sony cameras have the worst, most useless manuals supplied to mankind. Probably, no, DEFINITELY, the single most frequent negative rap on the A6000 is its lack of documentation. I’d have more luck praying for divine intervention.

I have never seen this manual. See, that’s why I love UHH. Thank you.

I shoot dual 64gb cards but I download my photos to LR at the end of each day, if possible but I don’t keep photos on my cards very long.
