Haven't posted in a while and these are new for me. My niece asked me to take some pictures of her since she was graduating this year. I told her I have zero experience with portrait photography, but she insisted. Here are a few.

I think they're really good. You picked up on her passions and personality, and you can do that because you're her uncle and know her well. I think it shows in these photos. Very nice job!

Not that bad considering you have no experience with portraits. In my humble opinion the last one is your best but there are others like No. 2, 4, 6,which are also very good although posing needs some refinements but that will come in time.
Never amputate extremities in portraits, that is a no-no although some portraits require careful amputation. If you have a lens with a large aperture use it to blur backgrounds which are not important to the portrait.
Do a Google search for portraits. I am sure you will get plenty of information.

Thanks everyone! There are certainly a lot of little details one must watch when doing portraits. Kudos to those that do it so well.

Your closer to being a portrait pro than you let on. Nice work.

Very nicely done, Greg. As someone above said, posing could use some work but you did capture the young lady's personality. By the way, when I was photographing a lot of graduating seniors back in the day, I would have loved to have thought of the small blackboard with the class year. I never could get into those huge white numbers often used as props in senior pics.

Outstanding photography for one with limited knowledge as you described yourself. Portraits are challenging in and by itself and when you have to shoot family members it is near impossible to have them satisfying you or family. Well done.

Greg, Nice portraits! You did a great job staging and your subject did a beautiful job posing. That she is your niece must have made it a fun and rewarding experience, one to be cherished.
