Has anyone used Nikon NX2 for photo editing?

Capture NX2 is good software but no longer supported. Unfortunately it won’t open raw files from newer cameras. I used it for quite a while but gave it up because of that issue. Since then I have found better software that is less expensive. I wouldn’t suggest taking the time to learn NX2 because you will most likely want something else eventually and have to start the learning curve all over.
NX2 is also is limited in its abilities. No layers and some of the tools are not nearly as effective as newer software.
Nikon Capture NX-2 was an outstanding editor. I still use it for the files from my D7000. It has a lot of editing features and features U-point technology. It was produced for Nikon by Nik software. Nikon was not able to continue with it after Nik was purchased, I believe by Google. If you have an older Nikon, you may want to get it. B&H Photo still has Capture NX-2.
Its current replacement is Nikon Capture NXD. It's produced for Nikon by SilkyPix. I downloaded it when I got my D500. It's not very good.
I use the Transfer function in Nikon View NX-i to transfer files to my computer. It creates a new folder for you when it transfers and numbers them sequentially.

I used Capture NX2 for years, before NIK was sold and it became "unsupported." It has some remarkable features, but lacks some others that are important to have. It is "quick and dirty." I could process a RAW file in a matter of a few seconds. I'm sure it won't recognize/handle files from my newer D810, and I know my new MacBook Pro won't run the old software.
I use View NX2 for editing raw files from my D7100 anf D70 all the time. If I need additional features I use Aftershot Pro 3. Most of the time NX2 is adequate.

Almost daily, works well with my Sony/Canon/Nikon/Fuji/game cameras.
I had to switch from NX2 to NX-i when I got a D500 as NX2 won't open RAW files from the D500. Functionally they are similar but the interface of NX-i is a bit clunky by comparison and the sliders are too small. I got used to it. I convert the RAW files to Jpeg (or rarely Tiff) in Nx-i and continue processing in Paint Shop Pro, relying heavily on the great Topaz plugins, especially Detail and Clarity. Nikon NX-D comes with NX-i and it's OK but PSP + Topaz is far better.
