This is what the town is most famous for. The Black Gate or Porta Nigra. I lived here about 6 out of 10 years I was stationed in Germany. Spring 2004.

I was stationed ar Bitburg AFB in 1969. We lived in base housing in Trier. 5 units across the river from the main town. 22 kilometer’s from the base. If memory serves me right it was Ehrang. Lots of woods by the housing, that brought walkers every weekend. Really nice area and people.👍

It was bigger at one point in time. The shorter side was equal with the other but they reused the stone.

I was stationed in Spangdahlem from Aug 85 to Mar of 1995. Short stint in the dorms, met my wife, moved to Trier. Later we moved to Base Housing in Speicher,
