HDR for detail enhancement

There are so many good pics I don't know how to comment on them.

In Jan. we were visiting friends in St George, Ut. I told them that I'd never seen any Pictograms and would really like to. So ... they took us to a historical site ... may actually have been in AZ.

I really like the Pictograms and would like to see cave art etc. Fortunately, there was not too much vandalism, but it's so disappointing that there's any.

The symbols are carved in soft rock and have been weathering for .... well ... a time so long that probably only a couple of scholars can read ("guess at") them. So they are very faint. I took pictures at the best possible angle. But the photos were ... unimpressive.

So I decided to try HDR to see if I could pull the symbol details from the surrounding rock. I was pleased with the result in that now I can look at the pictures ... and see at a glance what took me a long time to look at "in real life".

Anyway, this is a case where I definitely did not want the HDR to look like what I'd actually seen. It's a technique I'll remember for future use.

That looks like the one where you stand up on the platform. I love that area and yes I believe it is Arizona. I know where there are more out by Ivins, but don't know if you can get to them anymore. I owned an Auto Salvage Yard there, and they were up on the hill above me. I'm glad to see that HDR was capable of pulling the details out for you, good job.

Yep .... I think there is a platform in front of the large pictogram. A nice area ... but too hot for me.

hmmm .... we were probably breathing the same smoke-filled air from the Rose Canyon, Alpine, and "Dump" fires recently.
