I have a Canon 6DMKII. I use BBF on my 80D and tried to set it up on the 6DII but when I select the AF-ON in the custom controls the shutter still controls the focus and will not default to the BBF. Is this something that you have enough to send back to Canon to check out?

You need to deactivate the shutter start auto focus.

You may need to do a full reset of the camera. That's done by going to menu and "erase all custom settings" and then reset for BBF using the quick menu or the main menu. I updated the firmware for my Canon and it needed to be reset to get it back to BBF.

Send back, no. Check the setting on the shutter button and change to metering start. See the discussion starting at page 497 - Custom Controls of your 6DII manual.
