thanks everyone for looking and commenting--a little info for those of you who have never seen them--many times as you look at the sky there is no color visible, unless they are really bright. So it is a surprise after you push the shutter and wait for the camera to process and look at the screen and see what the camera saw that our eyes cannot!

Just a comment. I found exactly that to be true in Alaska. I waited up quite late and only saw what I took to be faint white clouds in the sky. Took a few shots and when I downloaded to my PC, bright green showed up. Wish I had known that at the time...I'd have taken more shots. BTW, again, your image is beautiful, Katharine.

Beautiful, you can start running Northern Lights tours in North Dakota, look out Iceland tourism. 😊
