An informal poll. How many of you Hogs out there use a Case or Cover that is fitted for your camera and lens only, when carrying just the camera and lens on a on a neck or over the shoulder strap. I'm not talking about a bag or pack but just the fitted case that will go over a camera and lens only. Thoughts and comments please.
I like to use this - but I do not let it swing around on a strap - it is belted to my body ....

That is so old school. By the time you get the case open and your camera ready to shoot the opportunity is likely gone.

Leave the top flap open or cut it off to use as a quick draw holster....
..

I have a better idea. Leave the whole thing off.
Have you been caught in the rain without a suitable bag to put the camera in? OpTec rolls up nice in a pocket when you walking around, there when you need it, I'm sure there are other brands or ways but this is what works for me. and yes I do/will shoot in the rain, but with care.

I bought a molded silicone case for my Canon 6D, it is made by easyCover but I don't use it because it is not comfortable. It changes the ergonomics of the camera and it feels slippery. It fits well and seems to be well made but I just don't like the way it feels. If it felt right I'd use it.

Same here. They are very old school and I doubt that you can even find them for most contemporary cameras.
As another poster noted, the "eveready" case was really never ready. When I had them back in the old days, I just used the bottom part while out and about. The part that went over the top and the lens was only used for storage. I have bags for that now.

I have one for my DF, and I still have the leather case of my old Nikon SLRs. No lens cover of any kind, I don't need it for the lens.
I'm an old fart who still likes to use film. I use my medium format for slower, more deliberate work where time is not that much of an issue so, when I'm backpacking, that goes into the top of the pack. However, I do carry a 35mm around my neck. While I am not a serious rock climber, I do occasionally find myself sliding across a rock face or two. For that reason, that camera will have a case on it for protection when I am doing anything more than just a walk-about. When I decide to carry a DSLR rather than a 35mm, I have a small, padded bag that is just big enough for that camera and use the bag for the same reason.
My mother’s Canonet has a fitted two piece leather cover that is in excellent condition.
I have a leather case on both my Canon SLRs, and my Rolleiflex TLR. I believe they came with the camera. None of my DSLRs have a case.
I used one frequently when I wanted to have my Nikon(s) or Leica and one lens with me in the car. Purpose was to prevent scuffing the camera or lens. Took the Never Ready case off when walking around. Would like to find a suitable one for my Olympus M1Mk2.
I have always thought of camera cases as protection from bumps, etc. But with modern digitals with back LCDs, is ther a backless case that is good enough for protection.
