Greetings!
I just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018, and need a book on how to use it.
I purchased the Adobe PE2018 Classroom in a book, and returned it.
I am used to the "Step by step" instruction in
Scott Kelbys books, but he hasn't published one on this yet.
Any recommendations?

Good luck with instruction on Elements. The program changes so often probably only Adobe itself can tell you what's in the new one.

I am thinking about upgrading from PSE 2012, and like you, want a comprehensive book for reference so I will monitor this thread in hopes of that info.

While you are researching a suitable book there are some Youtube videos that might give you a head start.

Photoshop elements for Dummies is one of several. Google for more titles, and as mentioned, there are many you tube tutorials on line.

I'm on PSE10 (still). I found printing off the manual on the disc helped me quite some. But if you've got to pay a copier to do this it's not cheap.

Why did you return the "Classroom in aBook"? I've found them very helpful in the past.

I use Elements 15 and Adobe sends me promotional material on the new version, and even helpfully outlines the differences between 15 and 2018. Check out the differences to see if they matter to you. If you do go with 2018 only the new features will have to be learned, and there are really not that many.

If you are open to online video instruction, check lynda.com

It may be free through your local library's e-learning.

There is a text accompaniment to the video, so you can pause and copy/paste key points. Though I haven't looked at PSE 2018 yet, the subjects I did view were broken into small chapters, making it very easy to rewatch your favorite sections.

A (free) start here:

There also are lots of YouTube videos.

I know, they are not books, but until you find a book you like, these links might do for you.

Are you new to Elements? I started with PSE 11 and upgraded to 14 a couple years ago. I found the Quick, Guided, and Expert modes to be excellent training tools. You can start with Quick or Guided and then go to Expert with the Layers Panel open and see how the effects were applied. My biggest hurdle was learning what the Catalogue in the Organizer was doing and how to subsequently adjust my folder naming conventions on my PC so it all made sense to me. After Import, creating categories and tags is pretty straight forward. Message me if you want any more info on my experience with Elements. I'm not upgrading to 2018 because it looks like it wants to take over too many actions on importing photos with default automation that I'm a bit leery of. Some of that may be disabled in Preferrences but I don't want to mess with it.

Elements is great and you will eventually learn to love it, but like anything as capable as it is, there are levels of learning necessary. One source I've benefited greatly from is: http://www.essential-photoshop-elements.com/
Rick Peterson created that site and is great in helping with any problem that comes up. He also shares terrific 'demo's' on 'How-To' on many techniques in Elements in a straight-forward, easy to understand method.

As for Elements 'changing so often'... I don't agree. I began with it back when it was version 7 or 8 and have continually enjoyed each successive version as they smoothly add some additional features. I was originally a 'full-blown' Photoshop user, but over the years have found that Elements does all I want/need (and then some). Good Luck and enjoy!
