What can I do to improve this photo? 1/800@f/20 ISO 2000 @300mm
I would crop tighter on the four adults and two calves, cutting out the adult on the far left, and some of the brush. Unfortunately, the photo doesn't seem to have enough detail for a crop that tight.
Wasn't the picture posted last week with the same question?

• Define a subject prior to shooting, what is the main subject in your photo among the several subjects?
• Once you define a main subject compose the photo to focus expressly on that subject, being aware of what is included in the edges of your photo.
• Use appropriate camera settings, for a scene like this f/8 works fairly well in most cases, unless the light is dim, then perhaps f/5.6.
• Focus correctly on the subject to ensure a sharp shot, set the focus point directly on the main subject or somewhere around the bottom 1/3 of the image on the viewfinder without getting into a detailed discussion on focus or just a bit below the main subject.
• It is difficult to get too close to a main subject for the most part.
