Well I received a call from my friend, he had an VIP photo shoot scheduled for tonight and was unable to do the shoot because of personal reasons. He recommended me for the shoot. I got the call and was hired. I have to do 35 to 50 (5X7) portraits in 30 min with Sec. Of Education Betsy Devos and print the photos on the spot. Mad rush to acquire the needed supplies. This will be a chance to put my portable printer to work (Epsom PM400) and see how it performs. did a couple of test shots at home . The printer did a great job. Now if the lighting is good I will not need to use a flash, if not, well, I guess I'll use the flash. Wish me luck
Please be sure and post results! Very curious!

Thank you for the comment.
I will post one with me. The clients privacy needs to be respected. I will also try to capture some of the speaking shots.
good luck on your shoot. If you need some equipment will your friend help you out?

You will do great. You tested out and ready to go. I told Murphy to stay home.

Sounds like "Group shots with Betsy DeVos", not really portraits, which is something you'd want to light and pose carefully.
I've done several events like this with a former and current governor here in Kansas and the current speaker of the house, Paul Ryan.
If that's the case, I'd still use flash to help give a consistent, balanced color and exposure.
Not sure what the ambient light will give you- could cause shadows under the eyes and inconsistent color.
Something light a Lightscoop on your flash works well, or if you are in a smaller room with low enough ceilings, the Fong LightSphere works ok, but I get better results bouncing in that case.
The spec's on your Epson printer look like it's capable.
Good luck!

Well, I went with ambient light, not too bad but a few got soft because of movement. Really tough when they are running the people through like cattle. No time to check and see if the focus was correct. I printed with the Ultra Gloss HP 5X7 paper and the phots came out great. However took me over an hour to print 32 photos. too slow for this type of event. I could have changed the quality down a notch, but that would not be fair for the people who paid big $$ top get their picture with the Secretary. I set the Camera on A priority at f3.5 and iso of 400. I tried the flash during set up but did not like to outcome. As promised here is one with me and the secretary. One other issue I had to deal with was I had to shoot in jpg because the printer would not recognize RAW files.

Thank you, and you are correct, they are not portraits, they are group shots. There is more time spent in prep work than the actual shoot.

Blue-ultra, I bet that event was a terrific challenge time wise.
I'm no means a photo critic and have a high standard of excellent in my photos.
However, in my poor eyesight, the photo in the download is out of focus. I can really see the focus issue in the lady's face, especially her eyes.
Again, I am not an expert critic!
Lastly, the flag on the right is backwards, as if the photo was shot looking into a mirror?
Surely someone at the education department would have noticed this in preparing for the photo shot.?
Just my thoughts, I trust I have not offended you, just my thoughts.

No offense. I did not shoot the shot with me in it,lol. I agree it is soft. Time wise it was pretty fast , until I started to print... That took way longer than I wanted but it still worked as the photos were ready when the patrons left. Mind you, there was only 32 people in the VIP room there were over 300 in the dinning room. I did not do the set up and did not have time to change much. I did however make sure everyone took of their id badges and made sure their hair was not in their faces, and of course the men's ties and jacket pockets. Plenty to do in 30 mins, whew!
Thank you for your observations and thoughts. This is how we correct our mistakes!
