I made a booboo and would like to know if I can recover my pictures.
I forgot to format my SD chip this morning and when I went to edit, I realized I could not open the file in my CS6 editing program. The screen indicated no files available. Well, the card was formatted for my Nikon D7100 and not my D7200 which I was using this morning. The pictures are all visible when the chip is in the D7200 but I am unable to download the file to my computer. The files are all RAW. Is there some way I can edit or just change the files to JPegs or convert the chip so I can print or email the files?

Question... Is it possible to take a card formatted for the D7200, put it in the other slot in the camera and use the camera to copy the files onto the 2nd card? That might let you then download them to your computer.

If the above advice doesn't work, after transferring to your computer, use the Adobe DNG converter.

Edit:

Also, check to see if the camera created a second folder on the card.

It doesn't matter if it was formatted for a D7100, D7200 or D500 or Canon 5DSr, the file structure is the same.
If you are having problems reading the card in a PC but no problem in the camera, download the image files directly from the camera.

You can go into the Retouch menu in Nikon cameras and do RAW processing. It will create the .jpeg files.

not a techie but I agree with morrisson 1116; I usually don't remember to format my card and have gone from D7100 to D600 to Lumix G85 to Lumix Gx7a to Nikon S9900, etc.; never a problem

Nikon has a download at their website you can download and install that will enable your system to see their RAW files. This may be of help to you in this situation and the future.

My wife's camera creates a new folder for each day. That may be something that she has chosen or it may be a factory default. Her camera is a Nikon Coolpix P500.

Have you worked on those raw files from the D 7200 before using CS6. Are you sure your version of photoshop has been updated lately. Can you see the files in windows Explorer or Mackintosh finder.

I found that attaching the pix to an email they loaded just fine and then saved them in a file for editing. Worked great.

Been using the Adobe program for several years and yes, just been updated into my new computer. I figured a way to load the RAW files for editing. Thanks for your input.

Actually, there are different, sometimes hidden system files stored on cards formatted in different cameras. While the card *format* may be the same, those special files are needed for some cameras to function properly. I have run into this issue many times over the years. Most often I had a problem with Canon-formatted cards that would not read in a Nikon.

Since the card is formatted for your 7100, why don't you stick it in the 7100 and download it from there?
